Prepare yourself to live an experience unique in its kind. Our interpetation center will surprise you in lots of ways. Forget the typical museum, it is nothing like it. Here, you see through the walls and you are walking on the same soil from wich we removed the artifacts shown in our exhibit. History is explained and illustrated on pivoting panels.
The building created by architects Cormier, Cohen and Davies integrates perfectly with its surrounding environnement ( the work of the architects was recognized twice by their peers of the Quebec Order of Architects and by The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada in 1994).
At the end of your visit, you will, without a doubt, realise why those French settlers, the seigneurs de Bellefeuille, decided to make of this new land their new home more than 250 years ago.
The historical and archeological site of Pabos is rich of its history. It gives the visitor the opportunity to learn about the life in the only seigniory in Nouvelle-France to get its profit out of fishery. A ficherman cabin has been rebuilt to help you visualize how life was back in the 18th century. Fictional excavations are held on site to explain how archeologists go back in time to tell our ancestors' history that abruptly reached an end in 1758 when the British army destroyed everything on its path.
Beauséjour Island, the heart of Grand Pabos Bay, is the idyllic site chosen by the seigneurs de Bellefeuille to establish their manor. Depending on the weather and the tides, it is possible to visit this beautiful place.
The visitor can also walk through the remnants of the King Brothers' company that was one of the first organisations, in the region, to take part in the forest industry in the 19th century. You will learn more about this company and the others that followed. It will give you a perspective on the evolution of this industry in our region until the closing of the Gaspésia Company in 1998.
